Charcoal in a hookah heats the tobacco and evaporates it. First you place tobacco in the bowl and tightly cover it with foil with small holes. Then you put heated charcoal over it. When you smoke, charcoal temperature is around 600-800°C. The charcoal heats the bowl through a layer of foil and it heats the tobacco and evaporates it.
Charcoal can be natural or self-lighting, that is, chemical. In turn, natural charcoal is divided into two types – coconut charcoal and wood charcoal.
Coconut charcoal for hookah is made on the basis of natural coconut shell. According to many, it is considered an ideal option for smoking and has a number of major advantages.
it retains heat very well;
you don’t have to replace it often while smoking;
it does not distort the taste of tobacco;
it’s completely natural and does not contain any harmful chemicals.
The only unavoidable disadvantage of coconut charcoal is that it will take you about 15 minutes to heat it up to the desired temperature.
Wood charcoal for hookah is obtained by processing wood that does not contain resins. For example, it can be lemon or orange wood.
A big advantage of wood charcoal is that it’s absolutely natural and, in the opinion of many hookah fans, it can add some wooden notes to the aroma of smoke. Wood charcoal, as well as coconut one, is not quickly lighted, but it keeps the desired temperature very well. And the only drawback is that you need to grind it before smoking and replace it rather frequently while smoking.
Self-lighting charcoal is made of chemicals. Dry alcohol or saltpeter, added to this charcoal in allows you to achieve the desired temperature very quickly. And this is perhaps its only advantage.
Be careful where you buy charcoals. Avoid buying charcoal from companies without good reputation.
When using a chemical version of the coal should follow two rules:
smoke hookahs with this type of coal only in well-ventilated areas
Before use, it should burn well, and its surface should not contain any dark areas.
What charcoal for hookah better? Hookah coals price depends on the material. The answer to this question is obvious! It's coconut or wood charcoal. As for the chemical option, it is better to avoid it.
